The brand Trick-or-Threads approached me to help round out their premier apparel drop with four fresh illustrations versatile enough to be used on a wide variety of clothing and accessories.

Challenge

Work off existing brand elements to create four original designs versatile enough to be used across a wide variety of apparel, accessories and packaging materials. These designs had to reflect the brand's aesthetic and dedication to high quality, custom products with an emphasis on spooky themes. Trick-or-Threads also loves to reference cult classic horror and obscure B-movies to bring their customers a well-rounded selection of delightfully creepy goods, so working in some subtle references was a major project requirement.

Process

Much of the leg work for the illustrations was done in Procreate for a more authentically hand drawn aesthetic. Having only recently gotten into Procreate on the iPad, I was excited have this amazing client project which presented the perfect opportunity to really explore this powerful tool. Thanks to Procreate's seamless Photoshop integrations, optimizing these illustrations for print media was a breeze! The possibilities this new-to-me tool provides has got me very excited about future projects.

Solution

Creating a design which build off the brand logo massively increased its reusability giving Trick-or-Threads huge value from just one illustration. Not only could it easily be recolored and reprinted to act as a staple product, but elements of it could be parceled out across all kinds of print media, packaging and branding materials. The rest of the supplied artwork embodied the brands core themes by drawing from classic animation and cult horror films like 1985's "The Stuff" which answered the client brief for recognizable horror themes.

The client was more than satisfied with the experience and end result and the response to the artwork has been overwhelmingly positive.
